A day in the life – Factoring Administration Assistant
Aryk Slupek has worked for Highland Residential for the past 4 months. He is also completing an apprenticeship in Business Administration.
Aryk tells us about a typical day in his role as Factoring Administration Assistant at Highland Residential.
Question 1:
What does an average day in your role look like?
My working day constantly changes, depending on how busy the office is. Usually I will be doing some standard data processing such as updating developments, or perhaps helping with invoices or newsletters to send to residents. I’m also completing a course in Business Administration, so I could also be working on some coursework. However, if an issue involving a customer is passed on to me, I will make this my priority to resolve so the customers concern is dealt with quickly.
Question 2:
What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Understanding the different types of legislation we must uphold as a factor. There are so many different things we must take into consideration when planning work to be carried out, so by doing research and reading up on the legislation I can help the team make decisions which will benefit all the residents.
Question 3:
What do you like most about working at Highland Residential?
Everyone at Highland Residential has been kind and supportive. They’ve been very welcoming and have helped me settle into my role and the working environment. The kindness they have shown is prevalent when dealing with customers and contractors.
Question 4:
What skills do you think are important to have to carry out the tasks in your role?
Good communication – whether it’s with customers, contractors or with colleagues. We aim to provide the best service possible and keep customers informed about work in their development. The same applies to our contractors, we let them know about upcoming work in each development. Also, my colleagues work throughout the highlands so by making sure everyone is clued up on what their doing it allows us to work efficiently and productively.
Another good skill to have is the ability to multi-task. Our Invergordon office is usually busy with phone calls and emails from customers so by being able to manage our time effectively, it ensures our customers are kept happy.
Question 5:
What advice would you give someone looking to start a career in Factoring?
I would recommend researching factoring and everything that is involved. Although it seems simple, there’s so much information and legislation that a property factor needs to know.
Here are some helpful documents to consider:
- Factoring Act (Scotland) 2011
- Factoring Code of Conduct

Question 6:
Outside of work, how do you spend your free time?
I’ve always liked sports, so I try to get out and about as much as possible after work. I enjoy playing football, golf and rugby and I try to go to the gym a few times a week.
