A day in the life – Property Manager

Louise Cook has been Property Manager for Highland Residential for 2 ½ years and thoroughly enjoys her role. Her experience in Retail Management and Estate Agency ensures she is committed to ensuring the customer experience is at the core of every decision.

Louise tells us about a typical day in her role as Property Manager at Highland Residential.

Question 1:
What does an average day in your role look like?

I begin the day by holding a meeting in the office to ensure the whole team is up to date with the tasks in hand. After this each and every day is different, I tend to have days where I am out all day conducting property valuations, sign ups and viewings. Thereafter I am back to the office to catch up on administration.

Question 2:
What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?

My biggest challenge is ensuring I keep customer contact whilst I am out of the office. However I always ensure I have my phone and access to emails with me, so I can respond to enquiries whilst on the move.

Question 3:
What do you like most about working at Highland Residential?

Above all I work with a great team. However I also love the social purpose behind what we do. Any profits we make are kept aside and used in further development of affordable housing within the local area. This sits well with me and gives me great job satisfaction.

Question 4:
What skills do you think are important to have to carry out the tasks in your role?

I believe that you have to be a good communicator, but most importantly a good listener. I love meeting new people and helping them with their future plans. There is nothing more rewarding than helping these plans come to fruition.

Question 5:
What advice would you give someone looking to start a career in Property?

I would ask that they get experience in a customer service role, preferably within the housing sector. Also keep up to date with all of the Scottish Government Incentives and Legislation that affects our sector.

Question 6:
Outside of work, how do you spend your free time?

I am a full time working mum, therefore most of my time is spent with my family. However I have also recently found a passion for running and after starting off with a Couch to 5K group just over 2 years ago I completed my first (and last!) marathon at Baxters Loch Ness in September this year.

Question 7:
What has been your greatest achievement?

Being announced Residential Sales Team of the Year at this year’s Herald Property Awards. I was absolutely delighted for our team! They are very enthusiastic and motivated and I enjoy working with them.
