A day in the life – Property Management Assistant
Julie Lindsay has worked for Highland Residential for the past two years and has worked in sales and lettings for 15 years.
Julie tells us about a typical day in her role as Property Management Assistant at Highland Residential.
What does an average day in your role look like?
Each day is certainly varied and can range from dealing with e-mail and phone enquiries, viewings, valuations (taking on new properties for our private let portfolio), property inspections, maintenance queries, advertising and marketing properties on social media and other admin I can fit in to the day.
What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Managing the ever growing portfolio of properties and dealing with the not so pleasant issues of rent arrears and tribunals.
What do you like most about working at Highland Residential?
There’s a great team atmosphere at Highland Residential and we all work well together.
What skills do you think are important to have to carry out the tasks in your role?
There are varied skills such as communication, negotiation, IT skills and most importantly a sense of humour!
What advice would you give someone looking to start a career in property?
All agents are now required to have the NFoPP Technical Award in Residential Letting and Property Management. It’s also ideal if you have some customer service and sales experience.
Outside of work, how do you spend your free time?
I have two grown up kids now so I’m getting more time to do things for me. These include playing tennis, drawing and painting and of course getting out and about with my 3 year old Beagle who will dictate whether we’re out for a short walk, disappear chasing wildlife for a few hours or stay out overnight (him not me!!).
